We believe every Kenyan with a smartphone deserves access to legitimate online jobs in Kenya — remote work from home, paid via M-Pesa, no degree or laptop required.
Gig Mtaani was born from a simple observation: millions of Kenyans have smartphones, reliable M-Pesa, and time — but lack access to legitimate online jobs in Kenya. Remote work, work from home jobs, and online paying jobs were out of reach for most Kenyans without a laptop or prior experience.
We bridge that gap by connecting everyday Kenyans with verified businesses needing chat agents, survey respondents, translators and remote customer service reps — all legitimate online jobs in Kenya doable from any smartphone.
No laptop, no bank account, no middlemen. Just your phone and your M-Pesa.
Founder & CEO, Gig Mtaani Kenya
The idea for Gig Mtaani came from first-hand experience navigating Kenya's digital economy. As a participant in the Ajira Digital Program — the Government of Kenya's initiative to equip youth with digital skills and connect them to online work — our founder saw both the enormous potential and the critical gaps in the ecosystem.
Through work at Jitume Digital Hubs, community-based digital centres established across Kenya to give citizens access to internet, devices, and digital skills training, came a deeper understanding of what Kenyan youth actually needed: not just training, but real earning opportunities they could access immediately from the devices they already owned.
Gig Mtaani is that answer — a platform built specifically for the Kenyan context, leveraging M-Pesa, the world's leading mobile money platform, to ensure that earnings reach hustlers instantly and reliably, wherever they are in the country.
Gig Mtaani grew out of Kenya's government-led digital empowerment initiatives.
The Ajira Digital Program is a Government of Kenya initiative to train one million youth in digital skills and connect them to online work opportunities. Our founder's participation in this program shaped the vision for Gig Mtaani — a platform that takes the Ajira promise of digital income and makes it fully accessible from any smartphone, paid instantly via M-Pesa.
Jitume Digital Hubs are government-supported community centres providing Kenyans with access to computers, internet, and digital skills training. Working within this network gave our team ground-level insight into the digital aspirations of everyday Kenyans — and confirmed that smartphone-based gig work, paid via M-Pesa, is the most accessible path to digital income for the majority of Kenyans.
